Patricia Ann "Pat" Lorentz

Sept. 13, 1929 — Dec. 7, 2006

Pat Lorentz died in her home from a house fire in King City. She was 77 years old.

Born Patricia Demuth Sept. 13, 1929 in Waterloo, Iowa. Her early years were spent on a farm owned by her grandfather. She moved with her family to Oregon in 1941 settling in the Aloha area. Pat attended school in Beaverton and Hillsboro High School, then graduated from Beaverton High School in her final year in 1947. She went on to the University of Oregon and then Marylhurst College where she graduated in 1952 with a bachelor’s degree in art. Pat spent most of her life in the Aloha and Tigard area. Pat owned and operated The Smokehouse Sausage Shop in Beaverton in the 1960s. She had also worked for Standard Insurance, Farm Boys Groceries, The Employment Center in Raleigh Hills, The Oregonian newspaper, the Cheese Shop in Beaverton and St. Vincent’s Hospital as well as a florist at Fred Meyer and Westside Florist.

Her interests included gardening, traveling, painting and sewing. She also loved playing pinochle and bridge. She was an avid reader and had a love for flowers, especially orchids.

She is survived by daughters, Christine (Lorentz) Gustafson, Mary Ellen Clark and Maureen Lorentz; son, Greg Lorentz; grandsons, Andrew and Ben Herdich, Matt and Tom Clark; sister-in-law, Marianne Demuth; her sons-in-law, as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Richard E. “Dick” Demuth.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Tigard Meals-On-Wheels or the American Heart Association.

A memorial service was held Dec. 15, 2006 at Young’s Funeral Home in Tigard.


Evelyn Mary Vann

May 11, 1919 — Dec. 7, 2006

Native Oregonian Evelyn Mary Vann, 87, died Dec.7 at the Shining Home Adult Foster Care Home in Aloha.

Mrs. Vann, whose maiden name was Olson, was born May 11, 1919, in Portland to Godfred and Bertha Olson. She attended Franklin High School, graduating in the late 1930s, and attended Oregon State University for one year.

In 1940 she married George Vann and they lived in Eastmoreland. Mr. Vann died in 1974. In 1980 Mrs. Vann moved to King City and then to Aloha in 2000, where she has been lovingly cared for by Cecelia Daraban. Mrs. Vann, a bookkeeper, had worked for Montgomery Ward. After she retired she volunteered for many years at Meridian Park Hospital. Among her interests she enjoyed golfing with her husband at the Eastmoreland golf course, where they had been members for many years. She also enjoyed playing bridge.

Her husband, parents and sister Ethel preceded her in death.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law Michael and Harriet Vann of Portland; brother Raymond Olson of Portland; and grandchildren, Amy Honisett and Jonathan Vann.

Interment was at Riverview Abbey in Portland.

The family of Evelyn Mary Vann suggests that contributions in her name be made to Hospice of Washington County, 427 S.E. 8th St., Hillsboro 97123.

Services have been provided by Duyck & VanDeHey Funeral Home.


Harriet Van Hoorn

June 8, 1914 — December 9, 2006

Harriet Hassebroek, 92, was born June 8, 1914, in Little Rock Iowa. She moved to Portland in 1945, and was a cafeteria worker for Portland Public Schools. primarily at Robert Gray and Marquam elementary schools. She was a member of Family Baptist Church in Tigard for more than 40 years, and moved to King City in 2004. In 1936, she married Dick Van Hoorn. He died in 2001.

Survivors include her daughter Gretchen Stryker; son Gale; brothers, Harve Hassebroek and John Hassebroek; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was on Dec. 15, in Fir Lawn Mortuary.
